ONLINE CONFERENCE BETWEEN THE ATLANTIC COUNCIL OF CROATIA AND THE ATLANTIC COUNCIL OF SERBIA

First online conference between The Atlantic Council of Croatia and The Atlantic Council of Serbia was held in relation to the General Assembly of Atlantic Treaty Association and its conclusions on new security challenges, but also on the importance of NATO for Western Balkan countries. Moderator Monika Begovic, MSc, introduced Milovan Milošević and Luka Paunović from the Atlantic Council of Serbia, prof. Lidija Čehulić Vukadinović, PhD, and students of political sciences at the Faculty of Political Science in Zagreb.

The discussion was very fruitful, students were especially interested in non-political Serbian perspective of activities related to NATO, but also the EU. The main conclusion was that the regional cooperation is important for reaching peace and stability, therefore efforts in strengthening regional cooperation, especially through A5 initiative, are to be encouraged and further enhanced. To be able to implement SMART defence, and pooling and sharing, Western Balkan countries should always have in mind that regional security cooperation is one of the most important interests, especially in creating security and political stability, by addressing key security challenges, but also economic prosperity. Therefore, security cooperation among Western Balkan countries could be considered the most relevant indicator of the stabilization in the region.

Since the time for online conference was limited, due to the big interest of both sides, it was agreed that online conferences of this kind be held in the future, too.
